The goal of the Beginning Diving class is to excite young students in
the sport of springboard diving. Divers work with multiple coaches on
learning the fundamentals of a forward dive and a back dive. Special
concentration is paid to establishing correct posture and body alignment
as well as strengthening the small muscles of the abdomen and lower back.
Divers also learn to coordination of the forward and backward approach.
As the semester progresses, divers who are prepared progress to
somersaulting and inward dives. Often the trampoline and the spotting
belts are used to learn these skills. The staff is U.S. Diving Safety
Certified and has been through U.S. Diving.s Dive Safe Progressions.
Divers completing this course have the fundamentals to pursue diving
further if they desire, and after two semesters in beginning diving,
we recommend progressing to the intermediate program.
