Diving team takes a summer training trip to escape the Utah heat for a couple of weeks, and to prepare for the summer meet season. This year we spent close to two weeks in Hawaii training with Mike and Anita Brown at the University of Hawaii. This trip provided the opportunity for some intense training, some quality beach time, and a chance to catch up with old coaches. On Tuesday, June 18th, we departed Salt Lake City by car for an evening in Las Vegas where we met up with Ted Everett, a former S.L.A.P. Diving coach. On Wednesday morning we then completed our drive to Los Angeles where we caught the afternoon flight to Honolulu. After a few wrong turns, a lost car, and too long on the Waikiki strip we found our hotel and prepared for 6 days of intense training. Did we sleep. we trained in the mornings with Mike, Anita, and the former Rose Bowl coach Jeff Stabile. We then had an afternoon activity including hiking Manoa falls, the Sunday swap meet, Sandy Beach, and Hanauma Bay. We then returned to the pool for afternoon workout with Rachel and Doug. Wrapping up the evening, we saw the movies on the beach presented at Waikiki beach and visited the gym where Jeff Stabile treated the divers to the best trampoline bungee rig ever designed. We then slept very soundly. On June 25th we finished our training and headed for the North shore for two evenings. Following a team barbecue hosted by the hostel we stayed in, we had a full day at surf camp, and a relaxing day at the beach before departing Honolulu on June 27th. Direct flight to Salt Lake City. of course not. What better way to complete this high energy trip than with a cannonball run from LAX airport to Salt Lake City after an all night flight on June 27th. Back in Salt Lake City, w e are ready for a great summer meet season, and already reminiscing of two weeks in the sun and surf. Below are some of the trip pictures. A special thanks to Mike and Anita Brown and Jeff Stabile for hosting the team and sharing their expertise with the divers and coaches. [Pics coming soon]
